Joshua Espinosa proves to be a master storyteller. Americana, as a genre, might have been forced together, probably by lazy journalists like me, into a distinct sound or style. But Americaña is something more honest; it’s the sound of American life reflected in all the cool licks and sonic grooves that run through this album, and also, through this country’s musical DNA.

Well illuminated and pleasant. I’m actually surprised a young artist today was able to concoct something so adoring.

Espinosa’s immensely appealing, unrestrained tenor moves between a fluid vibrato and a cracked tremble that lends tension and emotional weight to his delivery. There’s something both reckless and vulnerable about such a voice, especially hearing it applied to so many different song styles.

Josh Espinosa’s Americaña takes the listener on a wide-ranging musical journey brimming with simple truths and complex emotions.

Espinosa stands firmly at the emotional center of every tune with an honest and candid delivery, and Kevin Bowe’s impeccable production frames the songs with a tasteful and judicious balance of twang, jangle & verb. From the meditative “Pure Water” to the expansive ”Meet Me in Pittsburgh,” Americaña is the perfect running buddy for your next road trip. A very tasty debut album.

Josh Espinosa kind of came out of nowhere and blew my mind. Great songs, UNIQUE songs, and all sung in a very honest and engaging voice. This was a really, really FUN record to make.
